Historically, female characters in gaming and miniatures have often been depicted in a sexualized manner, with revealing outfits that defy practicality and logic. The Stormpride Sisters aim to break away from this mold by designing female models that wear practical, heavy armor suitable for battle. The Sisters travel through cold, snowy worlds in their quest. Imagine how freezing they would be if they wore chainmail bikinis!
Realism and Respect
In the Stormpride Sisters universe, the female warriors are clad in robust armor that reflects their strength and resilience. They wear protective gear, not for aesthetic appeal, but for functionality and survival in the harshest environments. Tribe Warmaster Elza wears furs, armor, and a heavy helmet, making her look like a true leader and warrior, commanding respect.
Painting models in full armor is way more interesting than painting bare bodies. Think about it – you get to add all those cool details on the armor, the battle scars and those intricate runes! Plus, we care about our backers: paint isn't cheap, and we don't want you to run out of flesh tones halfway through your army. So, we’ve suited up those warriors to let your creativity shine!
We’re not against bare bodies at all – they showcase beauty and strength. However, we believe in moderation: we do have some models that are minimally dressed, but there’s a lore-based reason for it. These choices are thoughtfully integrated into our storytelling to enhance the richness and depth of our characters’ backgrounds and roles.
Challenging Industry Norms
The decision to create non-sexualized female models is also a stand against the broader industry's norms. By prioritizing realistic and respectful depictions of women, the Stormpride Sisters project sets a new standard for miniature design.
The Design Philosophy
The design philosophy behind the Stormpride Sisters is rooted in authenticity and honor. Each model is meticulously crafted to embody the spirit of a true warrior. The heavy armor, detailed weaponry, and fierce expressions all contribute to a sense of genuine strength and determination. These models are not mere ornaments but representations of valor and endurance.
The Impact on the Community
Our previous project, Order of Repentance, featuring female warriors in full armor, was a huge success with our community. It resonated strongly because there is a noticeable lack of such miniatures in the market. The overwhelming support and enthusiasm showed us that players appreciate and crave well-armored, realistic representations of female warriors.
This is unrelated to this post, but I hope you will make alternate back packs that do NOT have the Fleur-de-lis emblem on them. I get that it ties them in with the other sisters, but it seems way out of place with the Nordic/Viking style armor. Maybe if you could come up with a rune that looks similar that could be cool. But the Fleur-de-lis has got to go (or be optional) and might be a deal breaker for me if it stays. Which would be a shame, because I am otherwise really excited about these and they are incredible models and a great execution of Norse themed sisters.
Sad to read that. I was expecting some sexy bits to combine with the official SoB figures :(
